Wind turbine controller
I wanted to build a wind turbine project back in college and never finished it. This is that project done properly. It's a controller for a small 300 W to 1 kW turbine charging a 12 V battery bank, like the ones that make sense on windy ridges in the hills, where the grid is weak or doesn't reach.
DC power and energy meter with protection
For solar panels, batteries and DC supplies. It shows volts, amps, watts and watt-hours on a 16x2 LCD and logs CSV over USB. It also switches the load off on over-voltage, over-current, a short circuit or a flat battery.
Smart street light
A street light that's off in the day and dims itself at night. It only goes to full brightness when the PIR sensor sees someone on the road. On a quiet lane most of the night is spent at 20 to 40 %, so it uses much less energy than a lamp left at 100 %, and the LEDs last longer too.
Water tank level controller
Most houses in Nepal have the same setup: an underground sump (or a boring) and a tank on the roof. Someone has to remember to switch the pump on, and then remember to switch it off. This controller does both. More importantly, it protects the pump, because a motor running dry or against a closed…
Gas / smoke detector with SMS alert (v2)
An Arduino Uno watching an MQ-2 (LPG and smoke) and an MQ-3 (alcohol and vapour). On a confirmed leak it sounds the buzzer, starts the exhaust fan, closes the gas valve with a servo, and sends an SMS through a SIM900 module.
